Throng Dargah Sharif As Water Drips Out Of Flag Post (TIMES NEWS NETWORK)
Bangalore:
Water dripping out of a flag post near a dargah sharif on Mysore Road was reason
for much excitement on Wednesday evening as several people thronged the place
to drink the holy water. Traffic was thrown out of gear for more than
two hours and policemen were deployed to control the crowd. The
miracle was noticed around 2.30 pm after prayers at the Dargah-e-Hazrat
Sadiq Ali Shah Hussaini Al-Ma'roof Biha Peer Baba (RA), next to the satellite
bus stand on Mysore Road. A flower seller noticed water dripping out of the flag
post Gousia Nishan and informed others. Around 4.30 pm, the news
had spread; many people made a beeline to the spot and gathered in front of the
post to witness the event. They carried bottles with them to take the water home.
The
growing crowd spilled on to Mysore Road, affecting traffic till 7 pm. Even around
8 pm, there was a crowd of around 500 persons at the spot. Dargah
president Syed Najumuddin said the flag post is just three metres from
the tombstone of Sufi saint Hazrath Sadiq Ali Shah Hussaini (RA). The saint
had come to the city 200 years ago from Arabia and settled down here,
he added.
Dargah
board member Aleem said there were signs of a miracle happening since Tuesday
night. We were getting the scent of sandalwood near the dargah since last
night. Even today, there was a dense fragrance, but we could not figure where
it was coming from. He said that as soon as they found out about the
water, they informed their friends and family and soon the news spread across
the city.
People
continued to flock to the Mysore Road dargah on Thursday too, as they came searching
for `holy water' dripping from a flag post. They started coming from Wednesday
afternoon to the Dargah Sharif. Though
the volume of water from the flag post has reduced, people came in hordes. The
dargah board members collected a few bottles of this water, mixed it into a big
barrel of water and gave it to people. The
flag post known as Ghousia Nishan-e-Pak (Kodi Maram) has been barricaded and garlanded
with flowers. On Wednesday afternoon, a flower vendor first observed the water
around 2.30 pm and by 4.30 pm, people started gathering at the dargah to collect
the water. Traffic on Mysore Road was disrupted for some time due to the rush.
The dargah
president Syed Najumuddin said the phenomenon was a miracle and the water has
healing powers. He said that people were asking for the water even now. According
to him, sufi saint Hazrath Sadiq Ali Shah Hussaini (RA) , whose tombstone is about
3 metres from the flag post, was known for miracles. Najumuddin
said, "The saint who settled on the banks of the river Vrishabavathi 200
years ago had miraculous powers and people from all religions visited him to get
rid of their diseases or seek solutions to their problems."
A woman devotee
who came with her two children said she believes the water has healing powers
and it would do good to her and her family. The
